Launch Event Recap: So & So Books
I have to admit, I wasn’t sure what to expect going to our launch event. I’ve been to a few book readings where there wasn’t much attendance, or worse, no one asked any questions. Having never done anything like this myself, I was pretty anxious and uncertain. I’d also never been to So & So Books.
Luckily, things went about as well as could be expected. The bookstore itself was lovely and a wonderful, open space. The staff as well were all very warm and encouraging.
All five of us Darklies were there, one by way of Zoom, and Darusha did an amazing job introducing us to our audience of about twenty. The four of us attending took turns reading about a page each from Transmentation | Transience. Afterward, all five of us answered questions, and there were a lot of them! I found this to be the best part, and one of the best strengths of having five authors. At least one of us would have an answer for a question, and having four others meant good context was always added.
The signing went well, too, and we made good use of our stamps, which had a signature for Darkly Lem, but also provided lines for the five of us to sign. Aside from one minor mishap where, due to confusing book passing, I signed a book twice (sorry Cadwell), the event was flawless, and it was so good to see all the fellow Darklies in one room together!
